West Ham United have completed the £3m transfer of Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg. The Sweden international captain has ended a nine-year spell with Arsene Wenger by signing a four-year contract at Upton Park.
Ljungberg claims it was a wrench to leave the Emirates Stadium, but felt that he had no alternative following the summer sale of Thierry Henry to Barcelona. "When Thierry left, it felt like the end," said Ljungberg. Curbishley is also trying to broker a deal for Barcelona's Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz has made clear his wish to leave Bayern Munich, increasing the possibility of a link up with Sven-Goran Eriksson at Manchester City.
The 25-year-old striker has been a target of the Swede's since Eriksson took over from Stuart Peace at the City of Manchester Stadium and is hopeful that a deal in the region of £5m can be concluded swiftly.
Eriksson is ready to spend another £10m at Manchester City on Middlesbrough's unsettled striker Yakubu. The Nigerian is unhappy at the apparent lack of ambition at the Riverside and appears to be agitating for a move.
West Ham United owner Eggert Magnusson expects the long running transfer saga of Carlos Tevez to Manchester United be finalised now that Fifa, the Football Association and the Premier League have started investigations into the deal. "I think he will be leaving soon and the sooner everything is concluded the better for everyone," said Magnusson.
Sir Alex Ferguson has reacted firmly to Liverpool's threat of legal action over the transfer of Gabriel Heinze by suggesting that Manchester United could also be taking legal advice, because of concerns over the way the transfer has been conducted.
Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager had claimed earlier that court action could be taken as they pursue a £6m transfer of the 29-year-old Argentinian as Heinze claims to have a signed letter agreeing he can leave for £6m, a fee which Liverpool have met and Benitez said: "The lawyers are working on it and we will have to wait."
Portsmouth have finally reached an agreement with Nigerian striker Kanu and expect the former Arsenal star to sign a 12-month contract, with the option for a further year, next week.
Roy Keane's recruitment drive appears set for a futher addition, with Wigan's England under-21 full back Leighton Baines talking over a possible move to Sunderland. Keane has agreed a £4m fee for the left back and Wigan appear resigned to Baines' departure this week.
Birmingham City have been told by neighbours Aston Villa that their is no room for manouevre on the £2.5m of central defender Liam Ridgewell, who is also wanted by Wolves manager Mick McCarthy. Villa manager Martin O'Neill has also made enquiries about Watford striker Hameur Bouazza, but faces competition from Fulham.
Luke Young's £2.8m move from Charlton to Middlesbrough should be completed today and Ryan Giggs and Wes Brown are set to be offered new contracts by Manchester United.
