Norman Whiteside was one of the most accomplished footballers to come out of Northern Ireland since George Best. A precocious talent he became the youngest player to feature in the English First Division when he made his debut aged just 16 for Manchester United against Brighton in April 1982. Just two months later he became the youngest player in World Cup history as part of the Northern Ireland squad who reached the quarter-finals at Spain '82.

His career was tragically cut short at at the age of just 26 but on the eve of publication of his autiobiography 'Determined', read instalments from his book and see how the Times reported his achievements.
