Dead certs
Middlesbrough are expected to complete a deal for Mido today after the Egypt forward underwent a medical. The club have agreed a fee that could rise to £6.8 million with Tottenham Hotspur, after renewed interest from Sunderland. Mido will replace Mark Viduka, who left for Newcastle United.
Tottenham signed him for £4.25 million from AS Roma last summer, after a loan spell in which he scored 13 goals in 36 league matches. He made only seven league starting appearances last season. “He’s an experienced player and he will add more quality and increase our attacking options,” Gareth Southgate, the Middlesbrough manager, said.
West Bromwich Albion are in talks with Chris Brunt after Sheffield Wednesday accepted an offer of about £3 million for the midfield player, who has been linked with Everton. Sambégou Bangoura has moved to Boavista in Portugal from Stoke City for £270,000. The Guinea striker was Stoke’s record signing when he joined from Standard Liège for £850,000 in August 2005, but clashed several times with the club.
Ian Harte has left Levante, the Spanish club, by mutual consent after three years. The 29-year-old former Leeds United left back had one year left on his deal.
Decent bets
Andrew Cole, the forward who was released by Portsmouth, is a target for Sunderland. Michael Johnson, the Derby Countydefender, may join Luton Town. Derby hope to sign Kenwyne Jones, the Southampton forward.
Long shots
Mark Bresciano has said that it might be possible to revive a deal for him to move to Manchester City. Palermo were not happy with the payment schedule in a proposed deal with City for the Australia midfield player. West Ham United have also inquired and told Bresciano that he will have to ask for a transfer from the Italian club. “To play for Manchester City was a big dream, but they did not say that it cannot happen,” Bresciano said.
