Dead certs

Everton have signed Yakubu Ayegbeni for a club record £11.25 million from Middlesbrough, subject to a work permit. The Nigeria striker has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2012 and is expected to make his debut at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Fulham have signed Kasey Keller, the 37-year-old former Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, from Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.

David Vaughan is expected to compete a move to Real Sociedad today when he arrives for a medical. Chris Coleman's side agreed a fee of £300,000 with Crewe Alexandra for the midfield player. Middlesbrough have taken both Emad Moteab, the forward, and Mohammed Shawky, the midfield player, on trial from El-Ahly.

Liverpool have completed the signing of Peter Gulacsi, a 17-year-old Hungarian goalkeeper, on a 12-month loan with a view to the offer of a two-year contract. Mikel San Jose, an 18-year-old defender, has also moved to Anfield on a three-year deal from Athletic Bilbao. FC Twente has signed Nikolay Mihaylov, the 19-year-old Bulgarian goalkeeper, on loan from Liverpool. Mihaylov only moved to Anfield this summer, one of a dozen promising teenagers signed by Rafael Benitez.

Decent bets

Aston Villa are closing on the £8 million plus capture of Curtis Davies, the West Bromwich Albion defender, although the deal has been held up after Gary Cahill refused to go the other way in part exchange.

Salif Diao is close to a deal with Stoke City. The Senegal midfield player was on loan at the Britannia Stadium from Liverpool last term.

Norwich City are close to signing Ian Murray after the midfield player was released by Rangers. Leeds United have had an offer for Rob Jones, defender, turned down by Hibernian. Darius Vassell, the Manchester City forward, is pondering a move to Derby County.

Several Premier League clubs have enquired about taking Darron Gibson, the highly-rated young Manchester United midfield player, on loan, although the champions have so far turned down all offers.

Fulham want Thomas Gravesen, the Denmark midfield player, who has fallen out of favour at Celtic. Bolton Wanderers have agreed to let Stelios Giannakopoulos join Sheffield United on loan, but Bryan Robson wants to sign the Greek on a permanent deal.

Long shots

Sven-Goran Eriksson is prepared to match Bolton Wanderers's £10 million valuation of Nicolas Anelka in a bid to bring the France striker back to Manchester City. Bolton are resigned to losing Anelka as well as El-Hadji Diouf, the Senegal forward, and Abdoulaye Faye, the defender, who is set to join Newcastle United for £2 million.

Samuel Kuffour has been offered to Sunderland. The Roma defender was on loan at Livorno last season. Aston Villa have rekindled their interest in Jermain Defoe, but the Tottenham Hotspur striker is unlikely to want to move. He has two years left on his contract.

Watford have rejected a £1.5 million bid from Fulham for Darius Henderson and also rejected the striker's transfer request.
