‘They want him now!’ Ran the front page headline of Seville sports paper Estadio Deportes in front of a big picture of a pensive-looking Juande Ramos. Meanwhile El Correo de Andulacia went for the more retrospective ‘At the Crossroads Again’ as Sevilla fans woke up to the news yesterday that they might finally lose their boss to Spurs.
Ramos’s imminent departure was also the main story in El Diario de Sevilla’ where they assured readers ‘Tottenham are sure they have Ramos this time’ and in the national press with La Razon and the normally Real Madrid obsessed Diario AS acknowledging that one of Spain’s best coaches had agreed to move to the Premier League.
Seville player Luis Fabiano admitted that the press speculation had made it into the team dressing room as had the club’s president Jose Marie Del Nido although he claimed Ramos’ departure was not the reason for his impromptu visit.
“The president said good morning to us but he didn’t tell us anything else,” said Fabiano. “We have seen the papers in the dressing room this morning but we don’t know anything else.”
Ramos for his part certainly was not acting like a man who had just been offered a lucrative contract to take over a Premier League side. He took training as per normal and when asked by local reporters: “Will you be leaving?” drolly replied: “Yes, after I have had a shower”.
