Chris Coleman has resigned as the coach of Real Sociedad, ending a six-month spell in charge of the Spanish second-division club.

Coleman’s future had been in doubt since Inaki Badiola became Sociedad’s president two weeks ago.

“Things have changed with the arrival of Badiola because there are now two different ways of seeing the club and of working,” Coleman said. “We are leaving our posts with great sadness as this is a fantastic club.”

The Welsh coach’s assistant, Steve Kean, has also resigned. Coleman said he wouldn’t claim payment for the remaining 30 months of his contract.

“The club needn’t worry about this. Money wasn’t why we signed for Real. If that was true, we could have earned more in England,” he added.

Sociedad are currently fifth in the second division, two places outside the promotion places.

Coleman, 37, who had previously been in charge of Fulham for four years was appointed shortly after Sociedad was relegated at the end of last season after 40 years in the first division.
