Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira have withdrawn from the France squad to play England in a friendly international on Wednesday.

Henry played all of Barcelona's 4-1 defeat of Real Valladolid on Sunday but has pulled out of the match in Paris due to an unspecified injury.

His absence means David Trezeguet could get a rare start after being called up as a replacement for Karim Benzema, who pulled out after suffering a knee injury in Lyon's victory over Paris St Germain.

Patrick Vieira, the France captain, withdrew after failing to overcome a thigh strain. The Inter Milan midfielder said it was not a serious injury and expects to be back for his club's match against Lazio at the weekend.

"I hope to play on Saturday but there really is no point in taking risks," he said. "I am frustrated but I am staying with the squad. I really wanted to play."

Trezeguet, 30, had not been picked by France since the defeat by Scotland in September but is Juventus's top scorer in Serie A this season, with 17 goals in 28 appearances, including the winner in Sunday's 2-1 victory at Inter Milan.

Loic Remy, the Lens striker, has also been added to the squad. The 21-year-old replaces Mathieu Valbuena, who was forced to withdraw after suffering an adductor injury.
