For years Fantasy Football has tended to concentrate on players playing in England, but now some true quality can be considered because you can also make some picks from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League in Scotland. Here are seven players you may wish to consider while selecting your team for the 2008-09 season.

Mark Kerr (Aberdeen)
A thoughtful and skilful midfield player who should stand out for Aberdeen this season. Kerr was one of Ian McCall’s first signings when he became Dundee United manager five years ago and quickly established himself before appearing to lose his way. Jimmy Calderwood, the Aberdeen manager, was pleased to land Kerr in 2008 and hopes to build a new midfield around the 26-year-old. Kerr’s hallmark is being able to bring order and calm to a congested and frantic midfield.
Scott McDonald (Celtic)
One of the outstanding players of the 2007-08 season. Brought initially to Celtic Park for £700,000 as a squad player, McDonald scored his share of goals to help to push Celtic towards their dramatic title win. At 5ft 5in, he is small and squat but has excellent upper-body strength that gives him menace in the penalty area.
Aiden McGeady (Celtic)
For many he is the supreme player of the Scottish Premier League, blessed with a trickery and skill straight out of the old Scottish tradition of Jimmy Johnstone and Willie Henderson. Has just signed a new five-year contract, although it will not deter Barclays Premier League clubs from sniffing around. Quick and elusive, McGeady has also added the famed “end product” to his game. Celtic have high hopes for him.
Willo Flood (Dundee United)
A deceptively clever and industrious midfield player, the young Irishman is about to spend his second year on loan at Dundee United from Cardiff City under Craig Levein’s watchful eye. The United manager is a paid-up member of the Flood fan club, as are the club’s fans, who warmed to Flood’s consistently good contributions to the cause last season. Can play either as wing back or in a more central position, working neatly and keenly in building play. Sometimes appears small and even frail, but has a surprising durability.
Chris Porter (Motherwell)
A relatively prolific striker, given the number of goals Motherwell can be reasonably expected to score, who should again be a mainstay of Mark McGhee’s campaign this term. Porter surprised many in signing from Oldham Athletic last year, having had a number of clubs looking at him earlier in his career. A big, strong, bustling lad, if he can remain injury-free he is sure to be a driving force this season.
Artur Boruc (Celtic)
A magnificent goalkeeper, if a faintly eccentric, not to say troubling, character. Surely any team in Britain would have Boruc between their sticks. The Pole remains Gordon Strachan’s finest signing for Celtic, offering an intimidating presence for strikers to try to overcome. Boruc’s height and wingspan have kept both Celtic and Poland intact in games when things have not been going their way. Another excellent season beckons for him.
Sasa Papac (Rangers)
An ethnic Croat who plays for Bosnia and Herzegovina, he continues to surprise many with his solid, seemingly ever-present performances for Rangers. “He has, arguably, been our most consistent player,” Walter Smith, the Rangers manager, said. Papac has made the left-back slot his own, even though his preferred position is centre half. With his strong positional sense, ability in the tackle and neatness in possession, Papac looks likely to have another sterling season.
