Preston North End 0-1 Liverpool
It was a deserved victory for Liverpool but they were made to work for it due to a combination of poor finishing and Preston's second-half fightback when they played higher up the pitch and caused the Premier League leaders a few problems. Riera's 24th-minute strike looked to have set the tone but they spurned many chances. Preston had few chances to speak of, with St Ledger's header denied due to Jon Parkin's silly decision to impede Carragher when he did not need to. TV replays suggest that Carragher had fouled Parkin on the initial free kick but it was difficult to spot and Preston should not feel aggrieved. After a tame first half they can be proud of their play in the second.
Full-time Preston North End 0-2 Liverpool Liverpool clear and Babel, on the halfway line, flicks the ball on to Gerrard, who is clear and alone on goal, with just Torres for company. He reaches the six-yard box and squares for the Spaniard to stroke home to seal the victory. Preston wanted a foul by Babel but no whistle was coming and Liverpool get the second that they deserved but seemed reluctant to score.

As bad as City were yesterday, I am really dissapointed by the lack of credit (not so much in this article to be fair) that we have recieved for what was a fabulous performance from start to finish. Cohen, Mcgugan and Thornhil totally ran the midfield, especially in the 2nd half. You reds!
Marc Davis, Loughborough,
As seemingly the only Forest fan to comment on this article, I'm over the moon with our win. Looking at the highlights, we really should not have had the second and third goal given to us, but we took them anyway!
Thanks John Pembo for taking care of the team so well. See you soon! :-)
Thomas, Bolton,
This article is about Stoke City, not Manchester City, I think that some more careful reading is required.
Stoke however have reached a crucial point in their season. Out of both cups and struggling in the league with liverpool to play next.
New players are required and Pulis must deliver.

Well done Agent Hughes - all going to plan. Please ensure relegation and crowds no higher than the paltry 31,000 yesterday - then, it's mission accomplished and return to your Old Trafford base. Over. And out.
Walshie, Marple,
I am sorry to say but Mr Hughes has lost the Players in the changing room , lost the Fans and now must lose his JOB! the whle place is a shambles!!!
The whole football club needs a complete over hall..NOW.. of HUGHES and start again.
Alan Howarth, Melbourne, Australia
all that money will never make man city a big team, it`s like giving that waster frank gallagher (shameless) £1 million they`ll blow it

Finish off City's season? There's still the UEFA Cup. And avoiding the drop :)

I think you got your Walkers mixed up in the 3rd paragraph. Josh Walker plays for Middlesbrough.
Ste, Middlesbrough,
Awesome!!! 1-1 to the Shrimpers, ha ha!!
Simon, Dubai, UAE
We need a manager who has a proven record of winning league championships/cups not a promising lad like Hughes.Mancini who was very successful at Inter Milan winning Serie A with them on more than one occasion fits the bill perfectly and is available now.
Chapman, Manchester, England
Well done you Shrimpers, credit to the town, what a fight you put up, same again please at the Hall
Mike Davis, Sole Street, United Kingdom
Hughes go now.
I remember Gillingham at Wembley - no more relegation battles --we need someone who has just a little tactical nowse.

I think enough is enough now. Hughes has more lives than a cat! Another cup exit, to add to the one against Brighton from Div 2 and now a struggling team like Forest. Hughes never had any control of a decent sqaud which he added to in the summer and still he loses. Please go now.
