We want your opinions on Teddy Sheringham. Is he the genuine article or vastly overrated? What are his strengths and weaknesses? Is he on the up or on the slide? Share your insight with us and the best comments will form part of his official Times Online player profile.
Teddy is the class act in a team lacking in guile. He may be pushing 41, he
may lose his place when Dean (son of Teddy) Ashton is fit but West Ham would
be a poorer team without him.
Kevin Birkett, Cork, Ireland
Stupidest question I've heard in a long long time.
David James Hickey, Cork, Ireland
This is an absolute no brainer. Teddy is a fantastic footballer with great
vision and technique. Even at 40 years of age he can still compete
physically and as his goal showed against Blackburn, he can still score
vital Premiership goals. He deserves much credit for his dedication and
drive. Keep going Ted!
Alex Sidman, Leominster, Herefordhire
He's not only the genuine article, he is unique. How many other players go on
as long as Teddy and still do the business weekly? He's a legend at Old
Trafford, Spurs and wherever he has played. One of the all-time greats of
English football.
Roy Ellor, Salford, United Kingdom
He's utter rubbish. Only gets a game in the Premiership because he plays for
the worst team.
Giles Wetherington, London, England
His strength has always been tactical and not based on speed therefore he
still has the match winning formula at 40. Teddy is going to be in great
demand if he ever turns to management after hanging up his boots.
Madelaine Davis, Norwich, Norfolk
How many other ENGLISH players have got their hands on a Champions League
winners medal in the last 10 yrs? How many STRIKERS at his age are still
playing and scoring in the Premiership? How many strikers have formed as
many succesful striking partnerships as Sherringham? I think we all know the
answer to this rather daft question.
Nic Osborne, Oslo, Norway
Sheringham the genuine article? This one is easy to answer. Imagine your side
is playing against his. He is on the bench. Although your defence has had
the wobbles all game, you have a one-goal lead with fifteen minutes to go.
Then you see Sheringham being asked to warm up on the touchline. How do you
feel about that? I would imagine most managers would sense that their
slender lead is now threatened.
Reg Towner, Liverpool, England
What a daft question - the guy has been a hero everywhere he has been.
Ste, Manchester, England
This man is a Premiership legend. For whichever club he has played, be it for
Man U or Spurs and now West Ham, he has been amongst the goals. This
weekend, Sheringham scored a trademark header against Blackburn to restore
the Hammers back to winning ways and even at 40, when modern players plan to
commence a managerial career, Teddy is still going strong as a striker. May
the man continue to do so!
Subhankar Mondal, Bangalore, India
The guy's still playing Premiership footbal at 40... what more is there to say?
Paul Phillips, Sydney, Australia
Do you have to ask? The man is a legend, the most intelligent footballer of
his generation. Who needs pace with his reading of the game? Should be
knighted.
