We want your opinions on Titus Bramble. Is he the genuine article or vastly
overrated? What are his strengths and weaknesses? Is he on the up or on the
slide? Share your insight with us and the best comments will form part of
his official Times Online player profile.
As stated before, he’s too old to be considered to have potential and does
not look like improving any time soon. Definitely a miss in my opinion.
Newcastle’s defensive frailties are certainly not wholly attributable to
Titus though. They defend poorly as a team, especially their wide
midfielders. This has always been the case since Kevin Keegan’s days and to
date has never been addressed. I look at the whole of the Newcastle back
four and they all look suspect at times. They only defender I rate and has
got potential is England U21 International Stephen Taylor.
Kofi Owusu, Stratford, London
Titus impressed at Ipswich and would possibly impress again at a club where
expectations are low. If you run a club with aspirations of a top six finish
then I would say that Bramble falls resoundingly short of what is required.
Shearer recently said that Bramble can be world class for 20 minutes and
then has a disaster. If Bramble's play is deemed world class then you would
have to say messrs Terry, Ferdinand, Woodgate, King and others are
superhuman!
Barry Russell, South Woodford, London, England
Miss. I'm a neutral and every time I've seen him he's been rubbish. He costs
Newcastle far too many goals and his concentration is way off for a
professional. His decision making is not quick enough for a top level
defender either. Newcastle should have defenders who are a lot more capable
than Bramble.
Luke Marson, London
As a Toon season ticket holder we need Titus to come good. He does have the potential to be a top player but needs someone at his side keep him alert, calm and collective. He has the pace, power, touch and presence to give any top striker a game they won't forget. And if his passing is on song he can split defences wide open. However, he does lose concentration, which can cost us dearly. However, if Glenn can support him with quality defenders he has the potential to make it at the top. Broonie, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England
Titus has the potential to be a top player. He has immense power and presence,
pace and touch. His passing is assured and he scores goals. His ability to
lose concentration and do something stupid is legendary but he needs a solid
communicative centre back beside him to keep him in check and a coach to
drill some common sense into him. The problem is that he was ruined by
firstly the sale of Woodgate then the firing of Robson and hiring of
Souness.
Mark, Ipswich, UK
Too old to be considered to have potential. Lacks the concentration to do his
job for an entire match. If he had ever been paired with a good experienced
central defender to organise the back line, and Titus in particular, he
might have been an asset. I fear it is far too late now. Don't pick on him
though, we need an entire back four. Unfortunately, we are addicted to
purchasing expensive misfit forwards. Without Shay Given we would regularly
be in the relegation zone. Titus Bramble is the perfect demonstration of
this.
R Thackray, Ayton, Scotland
He's certainly a good looking lad but his footballing credentials leave a lot
to be desired. Has poor timing and is appalling at marking. He should learn
from ex Toon legends Darren Peacock and Barry Venison. Bobby Robson's worst
signing. Still, what a great name though.
D Sage, Yorkshire
A definite miss. I can't really discern why Newcastle are paying him so much
of a weekly wage when his performance on the pitch is erratic. In the match
against Fulham, Bramble was guilty for both goals conceded and this has not
been just a one-time blunder.
Subhankar Mondal, Bangalore, India
Is this necessary? Miss. Enough said.
