David Beckham's Real Madrid career finished in glory as they won the Primera Liga title.

Beckham was substituted in the second half of the home game against Real Mallorca with his team trailing 1-0. And his replacement, on-loan Arsenal striker Jose Antonio Reyes, netted two goals to spark a revival which ended in a 3-1 victory.

Madrid finished ahead of Barcelona due to a better head-to-head record. Barcelona were 5-1 winners at Gimnastic Tarragona.

Madrid, who needed a win to be sure of the title, looked to have blown it as they trailed 1-0 at half-time at a stunned Bernabeu while closest rivals Barcelona led 3-0 at Gimnastic Tarragona.

But a double strike from substitute Jose Antonio Reyes - possibly in his final game for the club with his one-year loan from Arsenal due to expire - and an Angelos Basinas own goal saw Madrid clinch the 30th Primera Liga title in their history.

Madrid made a nervy start and they almost suffered the worst possible start as Mallorca hit the woodwork in the first attack.

A Basinas through-ball was latched onto by Juan Arango just inside the Madrid area and his left-footed shot thumped against the foot of Iker Casillas' near post before rebounding out.

The home side did not heed that warning though as Mallorca did take the lead in the 17th minute through Fernando Varela.

A swift break down the right saw the Madrid defence caught short and Varela was played in by Arango before slipping his shot past the onrushing Casillas and into the far corner.

Madrid, who had dominated possession up to that point but had created little in the way of a shooting chance, looked for an immediate response and the stage was set for David Beckham when the home side were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out from goal.

But while the midfielder, playing his last game for the club before moving to Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, got his shot on target, it was a comfortable save for Miguel Angel Moya.

Madrid threatened again soon after when Ruud van Nistelrooy drove in a dangerous low cross-shot which was put behind for a corner.
