Bolton Wanderers have been drawn with German giants Bayern Munich in the group stage of the Uefa Cup.

As well as Bayern, who are currently leading the Bundesliga after a blistering start to their campaign, Bolton will take on Crvena Zvezda, who were knocked out of the Champions League in the qualifying stage by Rangers.

The group is completed by Portuguese side Braga and Aris Salonika, of Greece.

Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, hailed a "fantastic" draw for his team. "Being greedy you want to play Bayern Munich at home, because you get a better TV deal from broadcasters.

"We all said Bayern Munich in the group would be fantastic, so we're all very happy."

Gartside believes facing Bayern could provide a major boost to Bolton's flagging season under new manager Sammy Lee. "We've had a tough start," he said. "You're looking for signs and things which might start your season off and this could be a great fillip for everybody."

The draw also pitted Tottenham Hotspur against Anderlecht, of Belgium, in a rematch of the two-legged 1984 final which the English club won on penalties.

Everton avoided the competition's big guns but will face Larissa, of Greece, who knocked out Blackburn Rovers in the last round.

Aberdeen face a tall order to reach the knock-out stages. They must face Panathinaikos, Lokomotiv Moscow, Atletico Madrid and FC Copenhagen in Group B.

Each club plays two home and two away fixtures and the winners, runners-up and third-place teams go through to the last 32 knockout stage along with third-place teams from the Champions League groups. The first round of group games take place on October 25, with the order of fixtures still to be determined.
