Barcelona have deemed him more trouble than he´s worth, a spectacular decline for the 2005 European Footballer of the Year. Manchester City sounded keen, but the decline hasn’t been that sharp. More likely AC Milan, who say they have ‘agreed a deal in principle’, although the 28-year-old could cost them more than £20m

DECO (BARCELONA)

The midfielder is among the scapegoats for Barcelona´s relative slump of the past 18 months. There is a queue of potential suitors, with Serie A well represented. Deco´s former Porto boss, Jose Mourinho, might take him wherever he goes

LUIS FABIANO (SEVILLA)

Top scorer in La Liga, and with his disciplinary problems apparently a long way in the past, the Brazilian is quick and lively and has been catching the eye of Real Madrid, who need a centre-forward to cover for, or to play alongside, Ruud van Nistelrooy

LUIS FIGO (INTERNAZIONALE)

No spring chicken, at 35, but Figo still feels there may be room for something other than a stint in the Middle East to decorate a CV that includes Barcelona, Real Madrid and Internazionale, with league titles at all three. No fee, but the wages bill could be prohibitively heavy

DANI ALVES (SEVILLA)

Daring full-back on whom Sevilla put a centre-forward´s price-tag last summer. They will still want a good price for him but may be more willing to yield to the widespread admiration for the player throughout the major European clubs

LUCA MODRIC (DINAMO ZAGREB)

Already renowned as a skilful playmaker, if Modric has a good Euro 2008 with Croatia he could be catapulted into superstardom. Chelsea have been linked, ditto Spurs, and Liverpool are said to have become excited about the 22-year-old. But so too are Barcelona, who are ready to embark upon a serious overhaul of their first-team squad

KLAAS-JAN HUNTELAAR (AJAX)

Consistently effective in front of goal in Holland for Ajax, this could be the summer when somebody answers the question: Can he do it in a more competitive and demanding competition? The Premier League, for instance, although Real Madrid have also started to wonder about this gifted finisher
