In the wake of Chelsea’s historic victory over Liverpool last night, John Terry says Avram Grant, the club's manager, not only deserves respect, but must also be allowed to keep his job into next season. The Chelsea captain has described the speculation surrounding his manager's future as "unbelievable" after the Israeli led the club to its first Champions League final.
When asked if he thought Grant had done enough to retain his position, Terry said: "I would have thought so. Results don't lie. You look at the Premier League table since the manager has taken over and they have been very good. It is for the club to make that decision. All we can do once we are out there and once the manager is in charge is do our best and that's what we have done to get to the Champions League final.
"Avram plays a massive part along with the players, Steve Clarke, Henk ten Cate, the fans and everyone at the club. It is a credit to ourselves and the way we have dealt with things this year because at times it has not been easy.
"I think he [Grant] deserves respect and rightly so. It is the first time in the club's history we have got to a Champions League final - it has never been done by any manager or set of players before and he does deserve it.
"To get to where we are and still question the manager's role at the club is unbelievable. But it is not just the manager, it is the players, and Henk and Clarkie, who have a big role to play behind the scenes. They keep players motivated. We have got such a big squad of players and they manage to keep those not playing motivated and that is a credit to them."
Ahead of the all-English final on May 21, Terry said that although Manchester United would provide the toughest of tests, Chelsea possess the character to come home with the trophy. "It is a great thing for English football with two clubs in the biggest competition in the world - it is a great achievement," he said. "We have got to beat a very good side but once you get there you don't care who you play. We've shown character all year even when our bigger players have been out, the squad players have come in and done well.
"They have kept us in these competitions and in touching distance of everybody else in the league. That's a credit to the football club, that's the way we work. We never let anything get us down and we keep fighting right to the end and we've done that. We have a chance in the Premier League and we are in the Champions League final. This is something we have wanted for four or five years and I am very proud of my players."

The heritage of José Morinho, was to bring his 1st class players to play as a team and that was what they did. Honestly speaking, Avram Grant hasn't done more then gain, from what the Special One left behind!

Adrian,
Grant took over the same team after Jose left Chelsea 11 points behind, and now Chelsea have 81, same as Man U. Jose could only draw with Rosenburg, and he nor other managers ever got Chelsea to the Champions final. Some baboon!! If only England had such a "baboon" as Grant.

Such short memories you lot have. Back at the beginning of the season JM said adios and everyone predicted a disaster at the Bridge. AG had more than a few rough patches in his new position but the lads responded to his guidance. JT is right: results, that's the ticket!

Adrian, A. Grant is no mug and its not Fantasy Football either. Most people would crumble in their shoes under the criticism that he has endured this season. I applaud J. Terry for his vote of confidence, albeit belatedly. Managing these giant egos takes some skill even if you doubt Grant's acumen.

Chelsea's success this season is also due to John Terry. This year he has overcome injury, some ludicrous tabloid coverage, and the very public (and hopefully temporary) loss of the England captaincy, to lead the club magnificently. Best captain in the Premiership, by a distance.
Roy Pinney, Weston Super Mare,
Avram Grant must be fired now...
He has no dress sense and understands little about the fashion needs we a posh London Club deserve. We the Chelsea fans care little for Grants knowledge of football or victories. Jose was soo good looking, Avram is soo drab.
Leslie Udwin, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Lets be honest - youspend £400m on players on an average Premiership team & your going to win tournaments even with a baboon managing the team!
