Clarence Seedorf says he doubts whether David Beckham will get a game for AC Milan.
Beckham will spend at least two months at the San Siro after agreeing a short-term switch from Los Angeles Galaxy and while Seedorf is delighted to welcome the 33-year-old to Milan, he admits he is unsure whether he will break into the team.
"I don't even know if he'll be able to play for us," he said. "I mean the first goal is for him to get fit and in the best shape possible. Training with a club like AC Milan will definitely improve his game even if it's only from a training point of view.
"But I don't know if he'll play, that's another thing completely."
Beckham's main motivation for moving to Italy is his determination to extend his England career, with manager Fabio Capello having warned he would miss the proposed friendly against Spain in February if he was inactive. And Seedorf believes he has made the right decision.
"He should focus on his physical state, train as hard as possible in a structure that's one of the best in the world to prepare for games with England which I think is his final goal and that's right.
"2010 is not that far away so he has to work hard and show Capello he's still here."
However, putting aside his doubts Seedorf claims he is thrilled to welcome the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder to the San Siro.
"I was in Albania for a friendly match when we found out," he said. "There was a lot of discussion about Beckham coming an we were all excited about how it would work, how he would fit in. Everyone is excited of course, we're looking forward to it.
"Personally I will help him out to achieve his goals, knowing that he's a great professional and he'll help us to do the same thing."
Ronaldinho is also excited at the prospect of playing with Beckham when the former England captain completes his loan move in January.
"I am very happy to know that he's coming," Ronaldinho said. "He's going to help us a lot and I'm looking forward to helping him be the great player he is as well. I always like the way he plays. I always admired him and it's very cool to play with important people. It's always very motivating."
The former Barcelona forward refused to speculate on who would be handed the free-kick duties with Milan, focussing on possible future success with both club and country. "That's not a problem, [although] it could be a problem for the team we're playing against," he said. "The main target for me is to win trophies with AC Milan. The Champions League is very important. It's a great competition and everyone wants to be a part of it."
The 28-year-old Brazilian indictated that he is a long way from retirement and believes he could still be playing for his country as far off as 2016. "I hope I can play for many years to come," he said. "I don't think about the end of my career. I've already played in two World Cups and I feel very fortunate for that. I hope to play at the next two World Cups."
