Portsmouth v AC Milan, 8.05pm

Jermain Defoe (calf) and Lassana Diarra (ankle) will miss the tie against AC Milan at Fratton Park. Sol Campbell (toe) and winger John Utaka (hip) have also been ruled out while midfielder Sean Davis, recovering from flu, is another doubt.

Diarra could still be out for another month after being injured at West Ham nearly three weeks ago but both Campbell and Defoe have an outside chance of making the squad for Sunday's home game with Blackburn.

"It's all good signs for the long term really," Tony Adams said. "Jermain trained for the first time today since he came back from Germany with England and Lassana is still out in France being looked after but it is a relief that operations are not going to be necessary."

With David Nugent, Lauren and Jerome Thomas ineligible having not been included in former manager Harry Redknapp's initial Uefa Cup squad, Adams is struggling to put together a squad for the Group E match. Defoe could even be named on the bench to make up the numbers although Adams will not risk using him.

Milan have brought 21 players to the south coast, including Brazilian stars Ronaldinho and Kaka, but are without skipper Paolo Maldini and look set to field former Arsenal pair Philippe Senderos and Mathieu Flamini as well as £30million ex-Chelsea flop Andriy Shevchenko.

Schalke 04 v Manchester City

Manchester City will be without Robinho for the match at Group A leaders Schalke. The Brazilian striker did not travel to Germany after suffering an ankle injury during last weekend's 3-0 victory over Arsenal.

"Robinho has an injury from the weekend against Arsenal," Mark Hughes said. "He has not recovered and he is not going to be here."

Pablo Zabaleta (thigh), Gelson Fernandes (hamstring) and Elano also did not make the trip.

"Elano's wife just had a baby," Hughes added. "She has just had a major procedure. He feels he needs to be with his wife which I fully support."

Roman Pavlyuchenko and Vedran Corluka are cup-tied for match against NEC Nijmegen in Holland.

Ledley King (knee) has been rested, while Alan Hutton (foot), Luka Modric (groin) and Giovani dos Santos (ankle) are out injured but Jermaine Jenas (toe) has travelled. Youngsters John Bostock, Adam Smith, Yaser Kasim, John Obika and Ryan Mason have been added to the squad.
