Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid president, has revealed that the Spanish giants are pursuing Franck Ribery, the Bayern Munich midfielder. Kaka, the AC Milan playmaker, looks ever likely to move to the Spanish capital and Perez has confirmed that he is also working to bring in Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.
Perez has now set his eyes on a third target as he looks to build a team that can challenge treble-winners Barcelona. "I'm going to meet with my friends Karl-Heinz Rummenigge [the Bayern president] and Uli Hoeness [general manager] to ask them about their intentions [for Ribery]," Perez told L'Equipe, the French sports newspaper. "I hope to be able to count on him for this year."
Reports suggest that Kaka will officially become a Madrid player early next week. There was a fear that Chelsea could make a late bid for the Brazilian but they have denied that, with Perez now confident that Kaka will arrive at the Bernabeu Stadium shortly. "I think if Kaka leaves Milan, it will be to join Real,” he said. “I am very optimistic."
Perez's first stint in charge at Madrid was during the famous “Galacticos” era, when Madrid bought such big names as Luis Figo, David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane. Since Perez’s return on Monday, it has appeared as if he is planning to do the same again.
However, he does not intend to totally ignore the Madrid youngsters. "I want to build a team with the best players of the world," Perez said. "With the best Spanish players and not forgetting the academy."
