Neil Warnock has told Shefki Kuqi that there is “no way back” for him at Selhurst Park. The Crystal Palace manager suspended the forward after he made an obscene gesture to the club's supporters during the 2-0 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.
Kuqi was placed on the transfer list and fined two weeks' wages by Warnock. “There's no way back for Shefki at this moment - he has burnt a few bridges,” Warnock said. “I've had a chat with him and it's better if he moves on. I've had probably nine clubs inquire about him, but he's not going to go anywhere below the Championship.”
Warnock is also to hold talks with Mark Hudson after dropping the defender and captain for the 2-1 win over Colchester United. Warnock took the decision after talks about a new deal broke down with Hudson, who is out of contract in the summer.
Warnock is also talking to Julian Speroni, the goalkeeper, and Clinton Morrison, the forward, who are out of contract at the end of the season. “Talks with Julian are ongoing, but, without going into detail, Mark's circumstances were slightly different and I told him that,” Warnock said.
Palace hope to step up their attempt to secure a place in the play-offs in the Coca-Cola Championship tonight. They were three points behind sixth place going into last night's matches, with West Bromwich Albion, their opponents this evening, fourth.
Ben Watson has said that the players are enjoying playing again. “There are nine games left and the lads are going to enjoy them,” the midfield player said. “We'll give it one more big push. If we don't get there, the aim was to stay up and we've done that.
“West Brom are at the top and are going to want to beat us, but we've got the best defensive record away from home in the Championship.”
