Keith Haslam, the Mansfield Town owner, insists the assault on him by a supporter following the defeat by Rotherham will not have any bearing on the protracted takeover at the Coca-Cola League Two club.
Haslam was attacked by a fan who had managed to gain entry to the Field Mill boardroom after Saturday's 1-0 home loss, a result that leaves Mansfield's Football League status hanging by a thread. The owner required hospital attention and a 45-year-old Mansfield man has since been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the assault.
The controversial owner has been in negotiations to sell the club for about 18 months but has turned down three offers from James Derry, the former chairman, while John Batchelor, the former York owner, expressed an interest in buying the club earlier this month.
When asked if the weekend's events would have any influence on the takeover, Haslam said: "No, not at all. I want to sell and this has not changed that. What I want for the club has always been the same, nothing has changed from that because of Saturday.
"I have got to think over the next few days what I want to do. I have always said I wanted to sell for some time now. I am not excluding anyone from talking about buying the club, but at the moment it is a question of who is out there.
"As before, people have got to be able to show what they can do. I know this has been a long saga, but so far people have not been able to fulfil their commitments."
Speaking of the attack, Haslam said: "I am fine. I am shaken, yes, but I am not too bad. Obviously I cannot talk about the incident, but this will have consequences."

i admire the way Haslam is dealing with this - he is unfortunately the man in the middle, and is being blamed for issues that he isnt responsible for - i say blame the 11 players on the pitch, and the overrated manager. They're the ones who have led them into this trouble.
