The Hull City players who helped their team win promotion to the top flight for the first time in the club’s 104-year history will be given a chance to prove that they are good enough for the Premier League next season.
“They’ll be given an opportunity,” Phil Brown, the Hull manager, said. “There’s a lot to be said for team spirit, togetherness and camaraderie and they will be given their reward. Reading survived with the same players who got them up.”
Whatever happens next season, Hull can look forward to banking about £60 million after they beat Bristol City 1-0 in the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. After hitting the jackpot and winning the single richest prize in club football, Hull will receive about £35 million in television money next season and, even if they are relegated, they will receive two £12 million parachute payments. They can also look forward to increased revenues from ticket sales and merchandise.
“We need to be fit and prepared for whatever the Premier League throws at us,” Brown said. “If we’re organised and stick to our beliefs we will be OK.”
Brown confirmed that Dean Windass, the 39-year-old forward who scored at Wembley, is part of his plans for next season. “He might break Sir Stanley Matthews’s record one day,” Brown said. “He carried on playing until he was 55, didn’t he?”
Who are ya?
Now for the hard part. Hull City made history on Saturday by winning promotion to the top flight for the first time, but are the players who got them there good enough to keep them there? In September 2002, Hull were 22nd in the bottom division and one of the players from that season, Ian Ashbee, will lead the team out in the Premier League next season.
Boaz Myhill
Funny name, great goalkeeper. Born in California, but plays for Wales. Joined Aston Villa when he was 12 and worked with David James and Peter Schmeichel before joining Hull in 2003.
Sam Ricketts
Wales right back who made a name for himself with Swansea City. Loves to get forward, but will spend most of next season on the back foot.
Michael Turner
Giant defender who loves to tackle and snuff out danger. Won’t have any problems against Peter Crouch, but Ronaldo might give him the runaround.
Wayne Brown
Every team needs one teak-tough defender, Hull have two. If you want to score against Hull, you’ll have to get the better of this graduate of the “they shall not pass” school of defending.
Andy Dawson
Will look forward to playing against Tottenham Hotspur next season because his younger brother, Michael, plays for Juande Ramos’s team. Tough-tackling left back who was snapped up on a free transfer from Scunthorpe United in 2003.
Richard Garcia
Australian winger who started his career at Upton Park and was a member of the West Ham side, with Joe Cole and Michael Carrick, that won the FA Youth Cup in 1999.
Ian Ashbee
Captain and heartbeat of the team. Signed in 2002 from Cambridge United.
Bryan Hughes
Busy left-sided midfield player, who has played in the top flight with Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic. Scored penalty that knocked Chelsea out of the Carling Cup at Stamford Bridge in October 2005.
Nick Barmby
Local hero who left Leeds United four years ago and took a substantial wage cut to join his hometown club. Also played for England, Liverpool, Tottenham, Middlesbrough and Everton.
Dean Windass
Mr Hull City. Released by his hometown club when he 18, Windass worked as a builder and in a frozen food factory before making the grade back at Boothferry Park.
Fraizer Campbell
Skilful Manchester United forward who scored 15 times after joining Hull on loan last October.

Well done boy's!!! It's good and all, but I'll be happier if Hull is still up in 2010
