Walsall have sacked Ishmel Demontagnac following a series of serious breaches of club discipline.
Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of a breach of the peace on Sunday morning in Birmingham Road, Walsall, but released without charge.
The 20-year-old winger was sent-off just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute during the club's FA Cup first round match against Scunthorpe on Saturday.
Jimmy Mullen, the Walsall manager, said Demontagnac's arrest at the weekend was the culmination of several serious incidents. "The club felt that enough is enough," he said.
Demontagnac was described on the club's website as "a player of undoubted talent and ability". He was part of the England Under-18 squad in 2005 and played for the England Under-19s against The Netherlands in 2006.
His career at the club has often been controversial, he was sent off twice for violent conduct in the 2005-06 season and his latest sending off was for an off-the-ball incident.
Mullen subsequently criticised him for letting his team-mates down, saying he was "very, very angry."
He added: "He's a fantastic talent, there's no doubt about it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, what he's got in terms of his ability he should be playing in the Premier League. But obviously there's something within him, the person, that stops him from doing it."
