Mark Wotte has been dismissed by Southampton. The South Coast club were taken over yesterday by Markus Liebherr, a wealthy Swiss, and the appointment of a new manager is high on his agenda.

Tony Adams and Micky Adams are among those on the shortlist for the job at St Mary's but the new ownership is expected to restructure the management of the entire club.

A club statement read: "We wish to recognise Mr Wotte's efforts during a difficult period for all associated with the club. We wish him well for the future.

"Our decision is part of a wider strategic plan being implemented to improve all aspects of the club's operations, both on and off the field.

"In keeping with this plan we can confirm that the search for a new manager has already begun. Our search will be conducted in a systematic and professional manner. We will find the right candidate, who will fulfil the criteria necessary to move the club forward."

Stewart Henderson has been placed in temporary charge of the first team.

Liebherr has stated that he intends to buy a season ticket at St Mary's - rather than take a free place in the director's box - and the Swiss expects senior staff at the club to make a similar committment and buy their own seats to watch the Coca-Cola League One club's home games.
