Win a £1500 Raymond Weil watch
AN UNADVENTUROUS performance cost Albion their position at the top of the Championship after a run of one win in six games.
With manager Roberto di Matteo playing much of the match with Luke Moore as a lone striker, the supporters’ frustrations came to the fore. Some West Brom fans were involved in heated exchanges with players, including Jonas Olsson.
A below-strength Coventry soon found themselves without their goalkeeper when Keiren Westwood came off, suffering from a jarred back.
This was a low-key match, with few opportunities to test the keepers. An accurate pass released Jerome Thomas, the Albion winger, who forced replacement keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos to push his shot away for a corner.
The Greek-born keeper then acquitted himself well when he punched a ball out to Graham Dorrans, whose first-time shot was well gathered by Konstantopoulos.
When Thomas went down in the Coventry area, apparently tripped by Martin Cranie, the referee booked the Albion winger for diving. “It was a clear penalty,” said Di Matteo.
When he finally brought on another striker, Chris Wood, it almost resulted in a goal, but Konstantopoulos again saved well.
