Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are set to play in a Four Nations Tournament from the 2011 season, but England have not been included in the plans.

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) have been in discussions with their Welsh, Northern Irish and Republic counterparts, with matches in February and May in future seasons being given the go-ahead. The annual tournament will be hosted by a single country, and move between the nations on a rotational tournament-by-tournament basis, with two matches will be played on each match-day.

It had been hoped that England would also be involved, however they do not feature in the latest plans. England competed in the Home Nations Championship which was abolished in 1984, on the 100th anniversary of the tournament which initially also involved Scotland, Wales and an Ireland team. The Ireland side were replaced by Northern Ireland in 1951.
