Russia will play Holland in the third Euro 2008 quarter-final in Basle on Saturday after a surprisingly easy 2-0 victory over Sweden in Innsbruck.

The result of the game rarely looked in doubt after Roman Pavluchenko fired Guus Hiddink’s side into a 24th-minute lead. Andriy Arshavin finished off a fine passing move with a second five minutes after the interval and Russia also hit a post.

Spain had already assured themselves of top spot in Group D, but they finished the first phase as one of only two teams with a 100 per cent record, coming from a goal down to beat Greece 2-1 in Salzburg.

Angelos Charisteas, who scored the winning goal in Portugal four years ago, gave the reigning champions the lead, but the Spaniards came back with goals in the second half from Ruben De la Red (61) and Daniel Guiza (88).
