Aaron Ramsey will be the centre of attention this evening as the 17-year-old Arsenal midfield player makes his debut for Wales in the friendly away to Denmark at the Brondby Stadium. Ramsey, who chose to leave Cardiff City and join Arsenal instead of Manchester United during the summer in a £5million transfer, has been promoted from the under-21 squad with Jack Collison, the 20-year-old West Ham United midfield player, who made his debut against Iceland in May.

“They have brought a level of enthusiasm with them,” John Toshack, the Wales manager, said. “When I watch them in training there is a real zip about them. What they lack in experience they make up with enthusiasm.”

More than half of Toshack's squad for this evening's match are under 25 and the former Real Madrid coach has vowed to stick with his policy of giving young players a chance to prove that they are good enough to perform at international level. Boaz Myhill, the 25-year-old Hull City goalkeeper, is expected to win his third cap and there are likely to be places in the starting XI for Ched Evans, the 19-year-old Manchester City forward, and Chris Gunter, the 19-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender.

“I'm excited about the game,” Toshack said. “I know there are areas where we will have trouble but once the game is over we will know a lot more. The average age of the side that goes out will be around 22 - one of the youngest in history.”

Toshack tried to take some pressure off Ramsey yesterday by downplaying the significance of his debut, but his captain was comparing the tyro to one of Wales's greatest players. “I cannot recall as much fuss about a young Wales player since Ryan Giggs,” Craig Bellamy said. “I don't want to put too much pressure on him, but everyone is very excited about him and that includes me.”
