Lukasz Fabianski, Arsenal’s Polish goalkeeper, believes the club’s youngsters have the character required to overcome their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and reach the final of the Carling Cup.
Arsenal travel to White Hart Lane tomorrow night with the score level at 1-1 after a first leg at the Emirates Stadium which Tottenham dominated.
Arsene Wenger, the manager, has indicated he could bolster what has always been a traditionally young Carling Cup side with some experience tomorrow night, with captain William Gallas ready to continue at the heart of the defence.
Fabianski, 22, arrived at Arsenal from Legia Warsaw during the summer and will keep his place in the side. He believes Tottenham’s inability to make the most of their chances in the first leg will ultimately cost them.
“We were losing at home, and before we scored the equaliser we didn’t have many chances,” Fabianski said. “It didn’t look like we could get a goal, so perhaps the tie switched at the moment Theo [Walcott] scored.
“Our young team showed again that of course we have a high technical level, but also we have a great character. With the character we have, we have to be optimistic going into the second leg. We have to prepare well.”
Fabianski is hopeful of emulating another more famous Pole from years past, Jan Tomaszewski, in playing a starring role at Wembley.
“Yes, that’s a dream, but I just want to play more games, wherever that is, so that means winning the semi-final,” he said. “Of course, though, Wembley means something special, everybody knows about it. It just gives me another reason to want to win the semi-final.”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! What's your excuse now Kai from Sutton. Couldn't beat the kids but humilated the first team instead!
Yid army, Tottenham, England
Oh dear,
Arrogant Arsenal play their first team at spurs and get hammered. Spurs were unlucky not to win this by a MUCH bigger margin. The tide has turned.....COYS
Bring on CHELSKI
andy, London,
First team, reserve team, whatever....Arsenal got GUNNED down and knocked out of the league cup....the scoreline 5-1 speaks for itself. And yeah, maybe it seemed like a second or even third-rate, reserve team that Spurs played...5-1...boy, it's like beating Derby...(no offense to tohe Derby fans of course).

Hmm, come back to haunt us? Tonight was so satisfying, I don't think I need to say anymore, other than: Spurs 5 - 1 Arsenal.
Neil, London,
Strengthen Arsenal team? Ha ha ha
I think TeamTalk has it best: Spurs "dismantling" Arsenal
Come on you Spurs!
Al, NYC,
Oh, oh, oh. Fabregas, Adebayor, Gallas. The Arsenal stalwarts really showed them didn't they.
Juande's going to Wembley, knees have gone all trembly.
Come on you Spurs!
Dave, Sydney, Australia
It doesn't get much better than 5-1 against the Arsenal (apart from sitting in the East Stand watching it). Can't wait for the Wembly final. So, look out Man U and UEFA Cup opponents - the magic triple is still ON !

All I can say is: 5 - 1...

Does Ed from London know anythng about football? The Arsenal second team get a decent draw aganst a Tottenham first team and thats something Spures fans feel good about? They should be embarrassed to turn out!
Geoff, London, UK
Dear ed,
guess spurs don't get the chance to do that as they lose so often!
sam, Lonon,
I think it's more of an Arsenal player admitting that a full strength Spurs side should have finished the game off against what was basically the Arsenal reserve team. That Spurs failed to do so despite leading 1-0 will come back and haunt them when they face a strengthened Arsenal team.
Kai, Sutton, UK
Wow, an arsenal player trying to make a home draw look like a big success story. Nice to see the shoe on the other foot.
