Mathieu Flamini says although leaving Arsenal was "not easy" he is relishing the prospect of playing at, what he says, is the forefront of world football.
The 24-year-old has joined AC Milan on a free transfer from the north London side, a decision which was made before the Italian club knew if they were to qualify for Champions League football next season. Defeat to Napoli in the penultimate match of the campaign saw Milan miss out on fourth place, but even though the opportunity to play against his former side in Europe's elite club competition will be missed, Flamini is looking forward to next season nonetheless.
"I cannot wait to fight for the Scudetto," he said. "I always knew that Milan would be my first choice if I were to leave Arsenal and I did not do it for the money. I had plenty of offers and I chose Milan because it is a dream of every footballer to play for them. Playing in the Uefa Cup does not matter because, knowing Milan, it is only an exception. Milan have won more honours than any other club in the world."
Flamini does not believe moving to Serie A is a step down from the Premier League's status in world football. Despite Liverpool and Arsenal beating Internazionale and Milan in the Champions League this season, Flamini believes parity is being restored.
"Serie A is getting back to the top," he said. "The problems are water under the bridge and a lot of big players will now move to Italy."
After a disappointing season for the Italian giants, a number of players have been linked to the Rossoneri. Milan club president Silvio Berlusconi has voiced his interest to sign Ronaldinho.
Emanuel Adebayor and Didier Drogba are two other names linked with the defending World Club Cup champions, and Flamini would welcome them with open arms.
"If I had the money, I would take both of them," he continued. "They are both incredible attackers and I would also be happy if Sheva (Andrei Shevchenko) returns because things may have not gone well for him in England, but he remains a champion."

I like Flamini and think he is a fantastic player. Flamini is hungry for success and AC Milan have a winning mentality. I wouldnt be surprised if Flamini becomes a Champions league winer with his new club because AC Milan are a champion team. he will be missed in England but i wish him well.

I can understand Flamini relishing the chance of UEFA Cup football - it's a rather underrated competition.
And of course he didn't go for the money. I'm sure if they paid him in bread, he would still have turned the Arsenal offer down...
