Arsène Wenger has begged Arsenal fans to forgive and forget after Emmanuel Adebayor was booed during his team’s 1-0 win at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Some Arsenal supporters have not forgotten that Adebayor flirted with AC Milan and Barcelona during the summer and are convinced that the Togo forward decided to stay in London only because the club offered to double his wages to about £80,000 a week. “We have to get behind him and support him because he is of tremendous importance for the team and you want your fans to be behind him,” Wenger, the Arsenal manager, said. “What happened in the transfer period did not always reflect his deep desire [to stay] and there was manipulation from agents on both sides.”
Adebayor was the target of abuse from a small section of fans after missing several chances in the second half of a match that will be remembered for Samir Nasri’s match-winning goal on his debut.

Arsenal would have topped the league in goals, and won it if Adebayor had converted most of the chances he was given.
West Brom should have been buried in the first half - same Adebayor story - missed opportunities. Give Vela and Bendtner a go.

I was at the game on Saturday and Andy is right, he got booed once because he should of passed the ball..then, quite a few fans started to sing his name....He 'does' need to make it up to the fans though, we were crazy for him last year but now he has a fair bit of making up to do!!
NiK, London,
He scored 30 goals last year. 30!!! At the end of the day no matter how many chances he missed (many chances he made for himself) thats a good total. Yes he betrayed us all in the summer and he deserves stick for that, but it shouldn't only come when he misses a few chances. We need him.
chris, bristol, UK
I was at the match on Saturday, and the only time he got booed significantly was when he went for goal himself, rather than pass to one of two unmarked Arsenal players who would have had an easy tap-in for a second goal: was a reminder of the selfishness he displayed throughout the summer.
Kevin, London,
Norm, I have no idea what you're going on about. Adebayor scored 30 goals last season and John Terry said that he was his hardest opponent. He causes a hell of a lot of problems for defences.
That said, Eboue is useless.
Andy, London,
Van Persie should be our main striker. Adebayor's ratio of goals scored to chances wasted is huge. He was at it again on Saturday. ONCE AGAIN we were in danger of drawing a match we should have won comfortably. And Arsene for heaven's sake BUY A BALL-WINNER and a CENTRE HALK and a decent GOALIE.
Arthur Gunner, London,
Adebayor deserves the stick he's getting for the first few months at least. If Barca or Milan had made the right offer, he would've been off in a FLASH. He has to earn his respect that and the only way to do that is to give 100% instead of all the badge kissing and 'I always wanted to stay' rubbish.
pk_gunner, coco,
Arsenal must sell Adebayor as soon as possible. He clearly has no commitment to the club, and his influence can only be disruptive. He is only playing for the money.
Leon Davis, New York, USA
When did he "beg"? Typical anti Arsenal Times.
John, Edinburg,
Arsene, the fans were not booing him because he wanted to leave Arsenal. They were booing him because he is the worst player in the team with no skill. They do not want him at the club and this is the only way the fans can get through to you. They do not understand what you see in Adebayor ang Ebue!
Norm, Sydney, Australia
