Angry Newcastle United supporters have attacked Kieron Dyer's car and house after the midfielder made it clear he wants to leave the club.
The England international was booed when he appeared as a substitute in Sunday's friendly win over Juventus, and fans then verbally abused Dyer and banged on the windows of his car as he left the ground after the match.
Eggs were also thrown at Dyer's house on the outskirts of Newcastle, causing Chris Mort, the club chairman, to denounce the fans' behaviour.
"We have to make all our current players and potential new signings see Newcastle as a great place to live," Mort said. "It would be disastrous for this sort of behaviour to be repeated."
Dyer wants to leave the club to be closer to his children, who live in Ipswich, and West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interested in signing him.
However, Sam Allardyce, the Newcastle manager, has warned West Ham he will not sell Dyer in a cut-price deal, after the Hammers were reported to have made a £4 million bid.
"Four million pounds is too low in today's prices," Allardyce said. "In today's market, for a player like Kieron Dyer who is 27 years old, a top, top player in the Premier League and an England international. It's a gross under valuation by West Ham."
If Dyer moves to West Ham he will be reunited with former Newcastle teammate Lee Bowyer. The pair were sent off for fighting each other during a match against Aston Villa in 2005.

My main point was the fact that stupid fans can't leave it on the pitch so to say!! i'm sure the money is the main pull to get away from newcastle..but you can never rule out the family pressures!! as for the fans, get a life its a pigs bladder on a bunch of grass travelling between 2 posts!! :-)
stuart, southampton,
Stuart sorry mate if you think that he is moving because he wants to be near his children you must be the most gullable person in the world.Dyer is a footballer and the only person he thinks about is himself believe me the "children thing" is an excuse.
Mick G, winchester,
This makes me sick to read about fans pelting his car and house just over a game of football - don't get me wrong I love Football and play it every week and watch it whenever I get the chance but I leave any bad feelings towards players and fans at the game or aim the abuse at the TV.. leave the guy alone he is only trying to and I quote 'be closer to his children' who can stand in the way of that!!
