Police have confirmed there is an ongoing investigation to find the West Ham United fan who shone a green 'laser beam' into the face of Didier Drogba during Saturday's Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.
Although the supporter could not be identified after officials and police were alerted to the incident during the first half of Chelsea's 1-0 victory, Scotland Yard today admitted the search to identify the culprit remains a priority.
A spokesperson said: "When the matter was brought to the attention of officials at the time it was not possible to identify the person or persons responsible. We will continue to try to identify them."
It is now likely police and Chelsea officials will assess closed-circuit TV tapes in a bid to track down the identity of the fan labelled "stupid" by Drogba after the game. "It's difficult as you see this green light," the Chelsea striker said. "This is a stupid fan I think. The rest of the West Ham fans were good. I think they supported their team. That's what we want to see in the stadium, not these kind of things."
