Thierry Henry insists Arsenal remain the "only team in his heart", despite reports this morning that claim the Barcelona forward is £15million summer transfer target for Kevin Keegan, the Newcastle United manager.
It has been a turbulent debut season at the Nou Camp for Henry, who has struggled to establish himself in La Liga since his summer move. But despite a season of setbacks the former Arsenal captain says while he doesn't regret his decision to leave the Premier League, he is only now realising how special his old club was.
"There's only one team in England for me," he told BBC's Football Focus. "Everybody knows the love and affection I have for Arsenal. I was so into it, I became a fan. There has been since I arrived here [Barcelona] a lot of speculation from day one but, hey, go back where? There's only one team for me in my heart. It took me a while to understand what that club, Arsenal, meant."
The 30-year-old France international spent eight years at Arsenal before joining Barcelona last summer, and despite a failing to settle in Spain, Henry says he has no regrets.
"I'm happy here at Barcelona," he added. "I still have three years of my contract left with Barcelona," he continued."I don't regret stuff in my life. Stuff happens for a reason. You don't regret stuff that you thought about. I don't regret it. I'm happy - I don't regret leaving Arsenal. But England..I watch every game that I see on TV. I was watching Stoke City versus Crystal Palace. I will always miss it."
Since the departure of Henry, Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has struggled to find a replacement captain. Williams Gallas has fulfilled the role for much of the season, but his role has come under scrutiny since his decision to stage a sit-down protest following the 2-2 draw with Birmingham City.
Kolo Toure is one player who would like to take over the armband, after Wenger said he would review the situation over the summer.
"I would be really, really proud to be captain," Toure said. "I am now one of the oldest players in the squad so naturally I feel like a captain and it doesn't matter if I have the armband or not. It is a decision for the manager and he is the only one who can make it."
In putting himself forward, Toure questioned Gallas' display of petulance following the match at St Andrews.
He added: "Gallas was really good for us at the start of the season. But then after this Birmingham game he made a mistake, he knows that and we all tried to bring him back to the team and he came back well. But when you make a mistake it is difficult after that - it was a really important part of our season."
