The son of Thaksin Shinawatra, Manchester City's controversial owner, says Sven-Goran Eriksson will lead the team on the end of season tour of Asia.
Eriksson had been expected to take charge of his final game away to Middlesbrough in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday week, after Thaksin told the former England manager he was not the man to take the club forward. However, Panthongtae Shinawatra, Thaksin's son, now claims Eriksson is to remain in charge for the club's tour of Asia in May.
"He will lead the squad to Thailand," Panthongtae said.
Manchester City are scheduled to arrive in Thailand on May 14 to open a club shop and hold a clinic. They are then due to play Thailand Premier All-Stars on May.17, before playing two further matches in Hong Kong.
The process of attempting to find a “big-name” replacement for Eriksson will take place amid an expected backlash from fans and the LMA have now added their weight to calls for Thaksin to reconsider his decision. Richard Bevan, chief executive of the LMA, insists Thaksin should honour Eriksson's contract.
"Success for Manchester City is getting into the top 10, Sven has delivered that," Bevan said. "He has got two games to go and he is focusing on those two games to go, and we implore Dr Shinawatra to rethink his strategy and to keep Sven on for the three-year period. And I'm sure Sven will deliver, not only for the players, the club and the owners, but most importantly the fans.
"Just look across the way to Manchester United, one manager in almost 22 years, look what they have won and look what Manchester City have won in the last 20 years."
He added: I think we have to remember that every time a manager gets sacked so do approximately two coaches. The public in Manchester want somebody looking after their club. Manchester City has been around for about a century, Dr Shinawatra has been around for about four months."

The Premier League declared that Shinawatra, despite facing corruption charges in his home country, was fit to buy Manchester City. I wonder what they think now.
Nigel, London, England
Sven having achieved so much early season has let himself be critisiced for the following 1/2 season that has been City (and the reason I hate loving City) but lets be sensible he is CLASS and has done what we (the fans) wanted. His double over Taggart was exactly why. Sven is GOD FRANK LISTEN PLEAS

So, Sven will lead the team to Thailand, presumably never to be seen again?
Be afraid Sven, be very afraid
Bryan, Deal, England
Using Man Utd as a mantle for keeping a manager is probably more accurate than the writer intended. But for Mark Robins late goal (in the cup if memory serves) for Man Utd, Alex Ferguson would have been sacked amid clamors from all quarters for his head. If ever one act changed the course of history
Darren Gilmore, Droylsden, Manchester
Perhaps some City fans are fickle, but the majority wouldnt be City fans if success was all they craved, it would easy enough to look across the road if that were the case.
I for one, would prefer Thaksin to take his money and leave us alone if this is how he acts
Malcolm, Saigon, Vietnam
Logic dictates it would be ludicrous for Sven to be sacked after what he has achieved at City, but unfortunately this is just the way that football seems to be heading.
And at the end of the day, should Eriksson's successor prove to be a huge success, the City fans will soon forget about Sven.
Henry, London,
After losing 1-5 to City in early 1989/90 Taggart was seen by many as a dead man walking. He'd been at OT for three years then. He was within one game of the sack when United won in the 3rd rnd of the cup. United went on to win the cup and the rest is history. Sven's a long way in front of that !
