Liverpool and Manchester United are among a number of clubs attempting to sign Antonio Valencia, the Wigan Athletic midfielder, according to his agent.

Diego Herrera insists the Premier League giants are targeting the 22-year-old Ecuador international, who has been a success at the JJB Stadium since his move to the club in August 2006. Although Steve Bruce would be unwilling to allow his player to leave the club this summer, his agent claims nothing will stop Valencia leaving the club in the summer.

"It is impossible to stop the improvement in a player's career when Manchester and Liverpool are in the middle," he said. "They have been following him for the past months. There are also two more teams interested. But he will not come cheap. Last week, Bruce commented £5million was not enough for the player."
