Still basking in the joyous scenes that engulfed Old Trafford last night, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United winger, has described last night's victory over Barcelona as a "great moment" in his career.

In the wake of last night's 1-0 victory Ronaldo, the PFA Player of the Year, remains modest about his part in United's success.

He said: "My performance is not important, winning is and we're in the final. It was a great result. Of course I feel good. It has been a great season and I'm in a great moment. I've scored many goals. I have played well but so have the team - they have been fantastic.

He added: "The most important thing now is the league because the final is weeks away. We have work to do and it is important to keep our concentration. We have two games now to lift the Premier League, we have a good chance and if we win them both we are champions."

Meanwhile, Wes Brown, the United defender, says the squad remains abuzz at the prospect of the Champions League final.

Victory over Barcelona put United to within touching distance of the club's third European Cup, and Brown, who was an unused substitute in 1999, says reaching the final just a week after a signing a new contract at the club is a dream come true.

"I have been here at Manchester United since I was a boy," Brown said. "I was happy to sign a new contract and we could have a great ending to the season."

The 28-year-old agreed to stay to Old Trafford after a long-running dispute over a new contract, but with a recent call-up to Fabio Capello's England squad, Brown says it has been a season to remember.

"If anyone had told us at the start of the season we would be in the final and needed to win two games to take the title, we would have been delighted," Brown added. "We are all happy to go through. Now we aim to do our best in Moscow. The lads are buzzing at the thought of being in the final."

The 1-0 victory last night required a brave defensive performance as Barcelona pushed for what would have been a decisive away goal, and Brown was pleased to have denied the Spanish giants.

"We dug in, knowing it was going to be difficult as they have some great players. They put a lot of pressure on us but we did brilliantly over the two legs and deserve to be in the final. We showed we can play as well as them. The fans were great as well. They got us going in the game."
