£25m could seal Adebayor move to Milan or Barcelona This could be a crucial week in determining Arsenal’s lineup for the new season. Milan and Barcelona continue to put pressure on the Premier League club for last season’s leading goalscorer, Emmanuel Adebayor, right, and midfielder Alexander Hleb. The official reaction from the Emirates is that Togo forward Adebayor is not for sale, although it is believed they would be ready to accept £25m. Brazilian club Portuguesa say they have turned down an Arsenal bid for their 21-year-old, £12m-rated forward Diogo. The Gunners, though, are expected to tie up a £13m deal for Marseilles playmaker Samir Nasri. Newcastle forward Obafemi Martins continues to interest Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, but not at the £15m asking price
Arshavin puts clubs on alert Zenit St Petersburg coach Dick Advocaat has confirmed that Andrei Arshavin wants to leave the club. The £12m-rated playmaker helped the Russian side to the league title and Uefa Cup last season, but wants to move to one of Europe’s biggest leagues. Arsenal have already expressed an interest in the player, who scored in his country’s 2-0 defeat of Sweden last week. The 27-year-old has drawn interest from clubs in Italy, Spain, France, Germany and England, including Newcastle, Manchester City and Everton
Hughes ready to wheel and deal Mark Hughes, Manchester City’s new manager, is preparing to enter the transfer market in a big way as a buyer and a seller. Goalkeeper Joe Hart looks to be heading to Tottenham after rejecting a new contract, Richard Dunne has been offered £75,000 a week by Portsmouth and Everton want midfielder Michael Johnson, who is valued at £8m. Hughes is believed to be interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Lukas Podolski for £20m and Espanyol defender Pablo Zabaleta

Birmingham turn down Celtic’s McFadden bid Birmingham have rejected Celtic’s bid of £5.5m, plus central defender Bobo Balde, for forward James McFadden. City chairman David Gold said Scotland international McFadden is ‘not for sale’. Birmingham have failed in their bid to sign Czech Republic forward Jan Koller, who looks set to join Russian Premier League club Krylia Sovetov Samara. The Blues had agreed an undisclosed fee for the 35-year-old with FC Nuremberg and were ready to offer Koller a two-year deal
Everton and Newcastle chase Engelaar Everton and Newcastle are both interested in Holland midfielder Orlando Engelaar but German side Schalke are close to sealing a deal for the FC Twente player. Eduard Burleson, the 28-year-old’s agent said: ‘I know Everton are interested and that Newcastle could soon make a move’
