Decent bets
Tottenham Hotspur's attempt to sign Heurelho Gomes has become complicated by a feud at PSV Eindhoven that has increased his price. Three agents claim that they are entitled to a share of up to 50 per cent of the Brazil goalkeeper's transfer fee in a deal struck when Gomes joined from Cruzeiro four years ago.
However, the Dutch champions are refusing to deal with Vlado Lemic, one of the agents, after a falling-out. In addition, the three agents, who include Renato Gaucho, are wrangling over who is entitled to the share of any sale. None of the agents are believed to act for the player.
Gomes has admitted that he was advised by Lemic to say that he wanted to leave PSV. Tottenham have offered about £5.5million for Gomes, but PSV are asking for £8million and Lee Young Pyo, the left back, as part of the deal. Tottenham want to sell Lee, who has a year left on his contract, to PSV for £800,000 but they do not want his transfer to be part of the deal for Gomes. Aston Villa have inquired about Paul Robinson, the Tottenham goalkeeper.
Gianluca Nani, the West Ham United technical director, could return to Brescia, his former side, to try to sign Marius Stankevicius. Nani likes the Lithuania player for his energy and because he can play in defence or midfield. Ipswich Town are in talks to re-sign Richard Wright, the goalkeeper who joined West Ham a year ago but spent part of the season on loan at Southampton.
Long shots
Portsmouth have said that they will not meet the asking price for Younès Kaboul, the defender who joined Tottenham for £8.5million last summer.
Wesley Sneijder has ruled out being bait for Cristiano Ronaldo's possible move from Manchester United to Real Madrid. The Holland midfield player joined from Ajax for about £19million last summer. “I'm flattered to be linked to Manchester United, but it's not happening,” he said.
