Andrew Johnson, the Everton forward, is having a medical at Fulham today ahead of a proposed £10.5 million move.
Last week the 27-year-old said that he was “not in the frame of mind” to play in a friendly match against Preston North End, but the England striker is expected to join Fulham in what will be a record deal for the West London club.
Johnson, who joined Everton for a club-record £8.6m fee little more than two years ago, has also attracted strong interest from Sunderland and Wigan Athletic, but he and his family are understood to favour a move to London.
Johnson's struggle to build on a successful start to his Everton career persuaded Moyes to listen to offers, but some at Goodison Park were still unsure about selling him until the trip to Preston on Tuesday evening. Johnson was told before kick-off that negotiations with Fulham were at an advanced stage which prompted him to pull out of the match, which Everton won 1-0.
The move leaves David Moyes, the Everton manager, to concentrate on luring Joao Moutinho, the Portugal midfielder, to Goodison Park. Moyes has failed with an initial £11.8m bid for the 21-year-old Portugal international, with Sporting seemingly insisting on a £20m deal.
However, Everton are expected improve their bid for Moutinho, who expressed a desire to join the club after Sporting's home friendly with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
"Everton have already made a proposal, but Sporting did not accept," Moutinho said. "We will now see what happens in the next few days.
"But Sporting already know my will, I have already transmitted it to the people here. What is my will? With the reasons that I have, I want to leave Sporting and I hope an agreement can be found and that a good solution can be found for both parties."
