Classic Times Fantasy Football is back. We got two great games for you to play and £100K to be won
Steve Finnan, the defender, has admitted that his future with Liverpool is in “limbo”. He has recovered from a hernia operation during the summer, but has yet to play this season and was offered as a potential makeweight when Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, tried unsuccessfully to sign Gareth Barry from Aston Villa. “Limbo sounds about right,” Finnan said. “There’s a big squad and I have been trying to get into the team.”
Finnan, who could return to the Ireland side for their friendly against Norway in Oslo tomorrow night, has discussed the issue with Benítez, but declined to elaborate. “We have spoken about it, but I don’t think I will say too much more,” he said.
Wenger reveals admiration for GB
Arsène Wenger says he is surprised by Great Britain’s gold rush at the Olympic Games. “I didn’t know the English were good at swimming,” he said. “I have been in this country for 12 years and I haven’t seen a swimming pool.”
Injury forces Taylor to miss international
Steven Taylor, the Newcastle defender, has pulled out of the England Under-21 squad to face Slovenia this evening because of the ankle injury he suffered in a collision with Darren Fletcher in Sunday’s 1-1 draw away to Manchester United.
Nelsen warns Santa Cruz not to jump ship
Ryan Nelsen insists Roque Santa Cruz would be taking a step backwards if he left Blackburn Rovers for Manchester City. “He’s happy here and I don’t know why he would want to go to a team that’s not as good,” the former captain said.
Keane wants more competition
Roy Keane, the manager, believes that his decision on Saturday to drop Dean Whitehead, the captain, is the perfect illustration of Sunderland’s growing strength in depth. “The options I have is a sign of the progress we’ve made,” Keane said. “But I want three more players to increase the competition.”
November date for Everton
Everton must wait until November 18 for a public inquiry into their plan to build a new stadium in Kirkby after the proposal was “called in” for further scrutiny by the Government a fortnight ago. The proposal, which has divided the club’s supporters, would involve sharing a site with Tesco, the supermarket chain.
And finally . . .
David Beckham will have a new manager when he returns to the Los Angeles Galaxy after England duty this week. Bruce Arena, the former United States head coach, became head coach and general manager yesterday in the wake of Ruud Gullit leaving the MLS club last week. The Galaxy have not won for more than two months and have conceded 42 goals in 20 matches.

John, Belfast, N.Ireland - Very funny John. Now if you check the England U19 squad, down to the youngest England squad (U15 i think?) you will find Arsenal supply more of the players to those squads than any other team in the country......When you know what your talking about it's much better!
Allan, London, Goonerville
Interesting thought Mr Wenger. You didn't happen to spot any decent young english footballers while you were out looking for swimming pools....?
