7.33am Tottenham Hotspur announce to the Stock Exchange that Roman Pavlyuchenko, the Spartak Moscow and Russia striker, has moved to White Hart Lane for a fee of £14million on a five-year deal. What now for Darren Bent?
9.25am Omar Garcia, a forward, formerly of Athletic Bilbao but now a free agent, agrees to join Rotherham United. But did he know that they played in Coca-Cola League Two ... and started the season with a 17-point deduction?
9.57am Tottenham add Vedran Corluka, the Manchester City and Croatia right back, to their foreign collection. On a six-year deal, too. Could have had him for £8million three weeks ago; resurrected deal is reported to be for £500,000 more.
12.15pm Newcastle United bring in Ignacio “Nacho” González, the Uruguay midfield player, from Valencia on a one-year loan.
González had just signed for Valencia via Danubio, his Uruguayan club, and a loan spell with AS Monaco. Little is simple at St James' Park.
12.35pm Nadir Belhadj, the Algeria left back, moves to Portsmouth from Lens, the French club, on a season-long loan. There is an option to make the move to Fratton Park permanent.
Belhadj rejoined Lens only in January so something must have gone wrong.
2.40pm Perhaps not the news that Everton fans wanted, with Louis Saha, the injury-plagued forward, completing his switch from Manchester United to Goodison Park. David Moyes fails to land Victor Obinna Nsofor, the Inter Milan winger, because of work permit complications.
4.15pm Steve Finnan is granted his wish to leave Liverpool. The Ireland defender, once mooted as a potential makeweight in the doomed Gareth Barry transfer to Anfield, heads for Spain on a two-year contract with Espanyol for an undisclosed fee.
4.43pm Another escapes the uncertainty at Anfield, with Andriy Voronin, the lightweight Ukraine striker, disappearing to Germany. Hertha Berlin snap him up on a year-long loan.
5.03pm Collins John, the Fulham forward, is allowed to leave Craven Cottage for NEC Nijmegen, the Dutch club. A free transfer and perhaps overpriced at that.
5.34pm West Bromwich Albion confirm signing - and spelling - of Ryan Donk, a central defender on loan from AZ Alkmaar. Surname sure to inspire tabloid headline writers.
5.48pm Liverpool and Espanyol continue to indulge in transfer mayhem, with Albert Riera, the winger, arriving on Merseyside on a four-year contract. Riera was barely noticed when on loan with Manchester City two years ago.
6.12pm José Mourinho, the coach of Inter, persuades his Portuguese compatriot, Ricardo Quaresma, to leave FC Porto for the San Siro. A fee of £15million does the trick, with Pele - the midfield player, not the legend - going in the other direction.
9.11pm Stoke City’s trawling of the bargain basement dredges up Danny Higgginbotham from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.
10.52pm In the intray at Fulham, Julian Gray, the Coventry winger, on a season’s loan. In the out-tray, Alexei Smertin, the Russia midfield player, has his contract cancelled.
10.59pm Danny Cousin, 31, is off to Hull City from Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
11.08pm George McCartney, the full back, rejoins Sunderland from West Ham United on a five-year deal. No fee is disclosed.
12.08am City flex their new chequebook and complete the shock of the day, stealing Robinho from under Chelsea’s noses.
12.38am Even City’s new owners can’t win them all. United leave it late to win the tug-of-war with their Manchester rivals, sealing a £30.75 million deal for Berbatov.
