United are now only two points behind Arsenal, with a game in hand, after Arsenal required a stoppage-time equaliser from Cesc Fabregas to salvage a point at Sunderland (to read the report click here). Elsewhere in the Premier League Roman Bednar scored the only goal in the game against Fulham at the Hawthorns (click here for more).

7.23pm Full-time Blackburn Rovers 0 Manchester United 2 United move up to sixth with a comfortable win. It took a controversial goal from Wes Brown to give the away side the lead, but from then onwards there was only one team in it and Rooney's second-half goal was well deserved.

7.21pm (91mins) "Charlie! What's the score?" The United fans sing to Paul Ince, referring to Ferguson's calling of him as a "big-time Charlie". Treacy tries from distance but it is skewed wide.

7.19pm (89mins) Emerton wins a corner and it is taken short. Andrews crosses to Samba who powers his header well over.

7.17pm (87mins) Ronaldo is clear once more on the right. In a similar fashion to the Rooney goal he drags it back for Tevez, who shoots low and hard but it comes off Brown's left-hand post.

7.15pm (85mins) Chrisopher Samba earns a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Tevez.

7.13pm (83mins) Tevez breaks and it is three on three but he holds the ball and picks out Berbatov rahtner than the speedier Ronaldo and the ball goes straight through to Brown.

7.11pm (81mins) As the rain teems down, many of the Blackburn fans have seen enough and trudge home. The pitch is starting to hold water. Blackburn meanwhile are struggling to make any inroads.

7.07pm (77mins) Tevez flicks on a cross and the ball hits the outstretched arm of Ryan Nelsen. Rooney appeals for a penalty but nothing is given. Blackburn are a bit lucky to get away with that. They are often given. Anderson has a shot deflected that Brown turns round for a corner. Ji Sung Park comes on for Rooney.

7.02pm (72mins) Samba makes a mistake and Berbatov is almost through on goal, but the Bulgarian does not do speed and Brown is quickly out on the edge of his area to tackle the forward and clear.

7.01pm (71mins) Van der Sar punches away the free kick under pressure. Ronaldo breaks and is pushed over by Treacy to the anger of Ferguson. Rooney is then through on goal but his attempt to lob Jason Brown is just over the bar.

7pm (70mins) Fletcher is booked for lunging in on the far touchline. John O'Shea comes on for Patrice Evra for United.
