Mark Hughes is hoping Micah Richards will be fit in time to face Stoke City.
The defender suffered an ankle injury against Newcastle on Monday but there was no break and he could return to training today. Nedum Onuoha is set to deputise.
Martin Petrov, Michael Johnson and Valeri Bojinov all miss out through injury while Pablo Zabaleta serves the second of a three-match ban for his red card against Liverpool.
Ryan Shawcross is in line for another chance at the heart of Stoke's defence.
The 21-year-old, who has not started a Barclays Premier League game since the opening day defeat at Bolton, is likely to replace the injured Ibrahima Sonko.
Ricardo Fuller, who was restricted to a cameo appearance against Spurs after international duty with Jamaica, is expected to start with either Mamady Sidibe or Dave Kitson demoted to the bench.

Portsmouth v Fulham, 5pm
Portsmouth's injury list is growing after Thursday's Uefa Cup defeat by Braga with Glen Johnson (pelvis) and Glen Little (torn hamstring) joining the casualties ahead of Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash at home to Fulham.
Niko Kranjcar (ankle) is still out but in training again with the squad for the first time since August and Lassana Diarra could return after missing the last three games through suspension and a knee injury.
Younes Kaboul missed out again in Braga with a back injury, Johnson was injured in training while winger Little lasted just 21 minutes of his UEFA Cup debut and could be out for several weeks. Armand Traore should be fit along with Jerome Thomas (back) and Richard Hughes (groin) who was on the bench on Thursday.
Fulham team news to follow.

Tottenham Hotspur v Bolton Wanderers
Jonathan Woodgate is the latest injury concern ahead of the match against Bolton after being substituted against Udinese with a groin problem.
Ledley King struggles to play twice a week so is expected to miss out, Tom Huddlestone has been out with a knee complaint and Michael Dawson and Gareth Bale are suspended. Vedran Corluka (head) and Roman Pavlyuchenko (ankle) were ineligible for European duty but will need checks before returning against Bolton.
Gary Megson has a virtually full-strength squad available for the trip to Tottenham.
Portuguese striker Ricardo Vaz Te, who has attracted interest from clubs eager to take him on loan, is nursing a knee injury. He remains sidelined but Megson has no other concerns as his men seek to build on their four-point haul from the last two matches.
Tottenham (from): Gomes, Cesar, Hutton, Gilberto, Gunter, Corluka, King, Assou-Ekotto, Woodgate, Zokora, Bentley, Huddlestone, Lennon, Modric, O'Hara, Pavlyuchenko, Bent, Giovani, Campbell.

West Ham United v Arsenal, 4pm
West Ham team news to follow.
Arsenal will have both William Gallas (thigh) and fellow centre-half Kolo Toure (shoulder) back in the squad for Sunday's trip to West Ham.
Bacary Sagna (knee) also missed the Champions League win over Fenerbahce, and while he has an outside chance to return at Upton Park, the Frenchman may need another week's recovery.
Abou Diaby is hoping to keep his place ahead of Robin van Persie after impressing in Turkey. Striker Eduardo is closing in on a return from his broken leg, but Czech winger Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) looks set to remain in recovery until the new year.
Arsenal (from): Almunia, Eboue, Gallas, Toure, Clichy, Walcott, Fabregas, Denilson, Nasri, Diaby, Adebayor, Fabianski, Van Persie, Bendtner, Gibbs, Song, Silvestre, Djourou, Ramsey, Vela, Sagna.
Steve Bruce is expecting Emile Heskey to be fit in time for the match against Aston Villa.
The England striker was ruled out of last week's 3-2 defeat at Liverpool due to a hamstring problem, leaving top scorer Amr Zaki to play as a lone striker with Daniel de Ridder coming in to bolster the midfield.
Wigan should revert to a 4-4-2, with Heskey returning in place of Antonio Valencia, who is serving a one-match ban following his dismissal at Anfield, while De Ridder keeps his place in midfield after impressing on his first league start.
Gabriel Agbonlahor is a serious doubt ahead of the match against Wigan Athletic.
Agbonlahor sustained cuts to his knees following an injury-time collision with Ajax goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer in Thursday night's 2-1 Uefa Cup Group F victory over the Dutch giants.
Agbonlahor today missed training, and will now be further assessed tomorrow in the hope there is no long-term damage. Fellow striker John Carew should return to the starting line-up after missing the clash with Ajax through illness.
