Arsenal v Portsmouth Sunday, kick-off 2pm. Highlights BBC1 Match of the Day 10.15pm
Arsène Wenger will hope that the return of Emmanuel Adebayor after suspension will help his side overcome the disappointment of losing a 2-0 lead to Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Adebayor, who has scored two goals in his last three Premier League appearances against Portsmouth, will play up front alongside Robin van Persie. Alex Song is likely to miss out, Johan Djourou and Gael Clichy both have calf problems and are doubtful starters while Cesc Fabregas (knee ligaments) is a long-term absentee. Portsmouth, yet to beat Arsenal in 10 Premier League meetings so far, will be without right-back Glen Johnson because of a knee problem. John Utaka and Younes Kaboul are also still struggling with injury. Marc Wilson could keep his place after impressing in the 4-1 defeat by West Ham United.
Blackburn Rovers v Manchester City Sunday, Sky Sports 1, 4pm, kick-off 4.15pm. Highlights BBC1 MotD 10.15pm
Ryan Nelsen, Blackburn’s captain, could miss the match after suffering a cut over his eye in the goalless draw with Sunderland on Friday. David Dunn is definitely out with a hamstring injury. Roque Santa Cruz, linked with a January move to City, is not expected to feature because of a calf injury. City manager Mark Hughes, who will be returning to his former club, will give fitness tests to Micah Richards and Felipe Caicedo. Darius Vassell and Daniel Sturridge are in contention, but Benjani Mwaruwari will be ‘out for a number of weeks’ with a thigh problem. Rovers have won seven of their 10 Premier League matches against City at Ewood Park.
Bolton Wanderers v Wigan Athletic Sunday, kick-off 2pm. Highlights BBC1 MotD 10.15pm
Bolton, who have never kept a clean sheet against Wigan in the Premier League, will welcome back striker Kevin Davies, who was left on the bench for the Boxing Day defeat at Liverpool. Defender Gary Cahill, who injured a rib in the same game, is a doubt. Wigan's Lee Cattermole is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Newcastle but Ryan Taylor should be fit. Cattermole’s place could go to Michael Brown, with Amr Zaki set to partner Emile Heskey in attack
Everton v Sunderland Sunday, kick-off 2pm. Highlights BBC1 MotD 10.15pm
Victor Anichebe has recovered from a back injury and should return to ease Everton’s worries up front while midfielder Dan Gosling could make his second full appearance since signing from Plymouth almost a year ago. Everton will be without Louis Saha (hamstring), Joseph Yobo (back strain) while Leon Osman is also doubtful because of a foot injury. Ricky Sbragia, confirmed as Sunderland’s new manager yesterday, will be hopeful that Teemu Tainio and Kieran Richardson will be fit after both suffered knocks against Blackburn on Boxing Day. Everton are unbeaten against Sunderland in their last seven Premier League meetings
Fulham v Chelsea Sunday, kick-off 2pm. Highlights BBC1 MotD 10.15pm
Chelsea captain John Terry sits out the second game of his three-match ban while Michael Essien and Ricardo Carvalho also miss out because of knee injuries. Striker Didier Drogba should be fit despite being taken off against West Brom after being kicked in the thigh. Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard faces a fitness test after suffering a ‘dead leg’ while centre-back Brede Hangeland is hoping to have recovered from a bout of ’flu. Zoltan Gera (calf), Andranik Teymourian (knee) and Diomansy Kamara (knee) are all out. Fulham have beaten Chelsea just once in their 14 Premier League matches
Newcastle United v Liverpool Sunday, Sky Sports 1, 11.30am, kick-off noon. Highlights BBC1 MotD 10.15pm
Joe Kinnear, the Newcastle manager, will have to make do and mend for the visit of the league leaders. Jose Enrique damaged a calf in the warm-up against Wigan on Friday and Mark Viduka tore a groin muscle, Habib Beye has a suspected broken leg and Sebastien Bassong was sent off. Javier Mascherano sat out Liverpool’s Boxing Day win over Bolton, but is expected to start. Alvaro Arbeloa is still sidelined with a hamstring injury, but Fernando Torres could return as a substitute. The Magpies have lost five of their last six Premier League matches against Liverpool, scoring just three goals in the process
West Bromwich Albion v Tottenham Hotspur Sunday, kick-off 2pm. Highlights BBC1 MotD 10.15pm
West Brom defender Abdoulaye Meite strained his hamstring against Chelsea and could be out for up to six weeks. Meite was the only casualty from the 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge and Leon Barnett is set to deputise, while defender Paul Robinson is suspended. Ledley King, the Spurs captain, is likely to rest his knee but Jonathan Woodgate is fit to deputise after recovering from a back injury. Tom Huddlestone suffered an ankle injury against Fulham and is doubtful. Tottenham have the opportunity in this match to level the all-time results between the sides in all competitions – the Baggies currently have 51 wins to Spurs’ 50
West Ham United v Stoke City Sunday, kick-off 2pm. Highlights BBC1 MotD 10.15pm
Kieron Dyer is unlikely to be risked for West Ham's game with Stoke despite having recovered from the broken leg he suffered in August 2007. Valon Behrami and Scott Parker came through the win at Portsmouth without any reaction to minor injuries, and Matthew Etherington is fit after a virus. Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson is suspended but Liam Lawrence could return after an ankle injury. Andy Griffin (knee), Salif Diao (calf), Leon Cort (groin) and Dave Kitson (knee) are all doubtful. Stoke have the worst away record in the top flight with just three points and have conceded 20 goals – more than any team in the Premier League
Manchester United v Middlesbrough Monday, Setanta Sports 1, 7pm, kick-off 8pm
Manchester United will be without Rio Ferdinand for up to 10 days, after he suffered a back injury in the warm-up for Friday’s win over Stoke. Patrice Evra is suspended again and Dimitar Berbatov, inset, will be hoping to start after impressing when he came on last time out. Aside from Chelsea, Middlesbrough have scored more goals (14) at Old Trafford in the Premier League than any other side. Boro manager Gareth Southgate has urged his players to stand up and fight after failing to win any of their past seven matches. The 1-0 Boxing Day defeat by Everton left Boro perched precariously just above the bottom three and Southgate said: ‘We’re in for a tough spell and I’ve told the players we have two options. We can walk away and hide or roll up our sleeves and work our way out of it.’ Boro will begin that task without Didier Digard, still out with a groin injury
Hull City v Aston Villa Tuesday, Sky Sports 1, 7.30pm, kick-off 8pm
Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill says captain Martin Laursen will be out for up to four weeks because of a knee injury. The Danish centre-half missed Friday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal after picking up the problem against West Ham last week. Laursen has had an injection and O’Neill hopes that will settle things down without the need for his captain to have an operation. Hull have won only one of their last 10 league games and have kept no clean sheets in that run.
