Stan Kroenke has been forced by the Stock Exchange to announce the price he paid for each of the 9,901 Arsenal shares that took his shareholding from 12.2 per cent to 28.3 per cent since March. Kroenke paid Clive Carr £10,500 per share for a 3.4 per cent stake, but he paid Richard Carr, his brother, £8,500 per share for a 4.3 per cent stake. The sizeable disparity in other share prices is not known.

Kiely storms out

Dean Kiely has walked out of the Ireland squad preparing to take on Nigeria in a friendly at Craven Cottage this evening and Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifying match in Sofia a week tomorrow. Kiely, the West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper, was upset after Giovanni Trapattoni, the Ireland manager, told him that he would not feature against Nigeria.

Valente looks to exit

Nuno Valente has said that he will leave Everton this summer, but the defender hopes to play one more season before he retires. The 34-year-old has not played since August because of a knee problem. “The coaches and the manager have always supported me, but I understand that they would be doubtful about renewing my contract,” he said.
