Aston Villa v Bolton Wanderers

Stiliyan Petrov, the Aston Villa captain, and Habib Beye, the Villa defender, will miss the visit of Bolton Wanderers as both are suspended. Petrov collected his fifth booking of the season and Beye was sent off in the 2-1 defeat to West Ham United at Upton Park on Wednesday. Nigel Reo-Coker is expected to replace Petrov after impressing as a substitute against his former club while Carlos Cuellar, the right back, will return after a one-game ban and is likely to take over from Beye. Emile Heskey (back), James Milner (calf) and Craig Gardner (groin) are major doubts.

Paul Robinson should deputise in the Bolton defence for Jlloyd Samuel, who is suspended. Samuel was sent off in last week’s 4-0 defeat against Chelsea. Danny Shittu and Mustapha Riga are doubts with hamstring problems, while Sean Davis and Joey O’Brien are long-term absentees with knee injuries.

Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth

Benni McCarthy has returned to training. The South Africa striker is back in the Blackburn Rovers fold after recovering from swine flu. Sam Allardyce, the Blackburn manager, has only Vince Grella (thigh) missing.

Portsmouth will be without Steve Finnan, their injury-plagued right back. The Irishman is suffering with an abductor muscle problem, but Frederic Piquionne, the forward, should be available, despite being carried off against Wigan Athletic last Saturday after taking a knock to his neck. Papa Bouba Diop (hamstring) and Hermann Hreidarsson (foot tendon) are on the road to recovery, but will not play at Ewood Park.
