Shocked football supporters from around the world are waking up to the news that Jose Mourinho has left Chelsea with immediate effect.
Do you believe this is this by mutual consent, as claimed by the club in its brief official statement? Did Roman Abramovich, the billionaire owner, heap too much pressure on Mourinho by stating that he needed to win the Champions League twice in the next six years? Did Mourinho's functional style of football lead to his downfall? And who do you want to see take the reins at Stamford Bridge? Could Jurgen Klinsmann deliver the most prestigious trophy in Europe? Or is Guus Hiddink, currently in charge of Russia, the man for the job?
Whatever your thoughts, post them here. Below is some of the reaction we have already received.
Thank God he is finally gone; it is the best for Chelsea and for English football. He is a childish winner, a poor loser and an arrogant manager. What goes around comes around mate! Miquel, Barcelona, Spain
Huge loss for Chelsea! Mourinho created a team from zero (FC Porto) and made them Uefa cup and Champions League winners. FC Porto, when he arrived, was losing games after games and had no team formed. After this he made what no manager could do in the last 50 years, win the Premiership for Chelsea, twice. Mario Albuquerque, Oporto, Portugal
I am so so very disappointed. Mourinho was probably Chelsea's best hope of taking Europe. RIP Chelsea FC. Zachary Malik, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Thats good news. Hopefully the next manager will play some attractive football. Normann, Aarhus, Denmark
Far too many cooks at Chelsea destroyed any hope Mourinho had of properly managing Chelsea. It's the same problem at Tottenham. While the managers at Arsenal, Manchester United and City all enjoy the level of control required to mould a successful team. Unfortunately for Chelsea it seems that the guys who recruited the worst signing in the Premiership for many years - Shevchenko - will be rewarded with running the club. No sensible coach will want to destroy his career by working with the likes of Grant and Arnesen, Chelsea will only get someone who goes for the money. Mourinho has passion and vision that will be better served at another club. Frank, London
Mourinho was a genius. He did more for Chelsea than all the players Abramovich could buy. He was only hampered by constant interference and a distinct lack of respect. He will be sorely missed. I'll be interested to see what transpires in the rest of the season. Sophie Gilbert, New York, NY
All right, time to move on. Someone please call Mark Hughes and ask him to join. That's the most sensible change and good for English football. Sam, New York City, NY
This is an unusual decision. Whilst I am a Man Utd supporter and am pleased Mourinho has left, I would prefer him to be there because he brings out the best in Chelsea. That way when United win the league, it feels better. James Moore, Sutton
I'm an Arsenal fan but this is a real shame for football. Marvin, London, UK
Absolutely shocking. Im a Villa fan and this is quite unbelievable. I said to a Chelsea fan that Roman has built Chelsea as a title winning team but he will also destroy them. He wants instant success in every competition and he's just not going to get this. I can see another Leeds situation on the cards soon as Roman leaves. And I won't be surprised if this happens in the near future. Jose was a great manager and was great to have in the Premier League, I can't see him managing again in England. Sad loss. Stuart, Birmingham
Wow, that came earlier than i thought. But hey! All the best to you "special one" . We'll see how special you are without all that talent! Bill Peacock, Winnipeg, Canada
I can't say that I particularly cared for Jose but I did like his rather audacious style; he was good for the Premier League - football needs characters - he did have style - like Jose M. P Sharma, Oxford, UK
I cannot beleive he's gone, what is this going to do to Chelsea's team spirit that Mourinho has worked so hard to create? A.P., Manchester, UK
Holy cow. The most successful manager in your history, still the odds-on favorite for the title, more silverware than Chelsea has seen in years...and this? As a Man U fan, the rise of Chelsea was one more aggravation, another formidable opponent. Thank goodness Abramovich has decided to channel George Steinbrenner of the Yankees and mess it all up! John, Tacoma, WA, USA
Is this the day football has died? Or maybe its resurrection is to begin. A lesson to the money men, for certain. Perhaps Jose could go across the Thames to White Hart Lane, where I am sure he will have the full control of Spurs, and would be welcomed with open arms if the Jol situation resolves itself. Jonny Brick, Edinburgh (but a Londoner)
Abramovich is not stupid, he gave the man funds and Jose abused it, failed to recognise that he required cover in certain fields and then wanted to spend more and more. Look at the way Arsene Wenger plays the transfer window. You are not so great Jose.Mehmet, Bexleyheath, Kent
Good riddance. Great manager but arrogant and egotistical, berating Shevchenko for celebrating his goal against Rosenborg underlined his lack of class, something money can't buy at Chelsea. Shad, London, England
