Claudio Pizarro is hoping to rediscover the goalscoring touch after completing a loan switch from Chelsea to Werder Bremen. The Peru striker scored 29 goals in 56 games for the north German club between 1999 and 2001 before moving on to Bayern Munich.

At Bayern he scored a further 71 goals in six seasons before sealing a free transfer switch to Chelsea last summer.

However, his first season in the Premier League did not go according to plan and he made only a handful of starts for the Blues and, at the weekend, he agreed to return to the Bundesliga on loan for a season.

Pizarro now hopes to return to his best form and help Bremen mount a serious league title challenge as well as in the Champions League.

"Bremen have enough quality to win titles," he said. "I am really happy to be back here and I hope things work out well for Werder."

Klaus Allofs, Bremen director of sport, admitted that the 29-year-old had been a long-term target since it became clear his contract with Bayern would not be extended last year. "We were unable to pull it off back then, but we kept tabs on him," he said.

Pizarro has been given the number 24 shirt and is set to make his debut in next Saturday's clash with Schalke in the Bundesliga.
