It will be hard for Chelsea not to have an eye on the latter rounds of the Champions League after yesterday’s gentle draw for the group stage, but even after the hurt of being one kick away from winning the tournament last season, Joe Cole feels that domestic matters are more important.
“The main thing is Chelsea win the league this season, that’s the priority for the club,” the forward said. “The Premier League is the bread and butter, that’s the mark of a club and who you are. Anything can happen in the Champions League. Look how close we came last season — we should have won it, we were the better side in the final, but the gods were not on our side. In the Premier League, the best team over the course of a season wins it and we want to be that team this year.”
Speaking at an event to mark the club’s work in the community, Cole pledged to stay local despite the imminent arrival of Robinho. The signing is so close that Chelsea were confident enough to offer Robinho replica shirts for sale on their website, even before the deal for the Real Madrid forward is rubber-stamped.
“I’ve been here five years now and I’ve always played, even after we’ve brought in players for £20 or £30 million, world-class players,” Cole, 26, said. “I’ve always accepted the challenge, always took it on. It will just be another great challenge. He’s a great player, so it’s great for the squad.”
Frank Lampard, Cole’s team-mate, is also looking forward to the Brazil player’s arrival. “He has great flair and something that would be nice to bring into our team. We have flair players already, but he is another option and he could light up the league,” Lampard said.
Cole dismissed the notion that he may move on in search of a guaranteed first-team place. “I love Chelsea, I’ve got a contract here, I wouldn’t want to go play anywhere else,” he said. “The club want me to stay, I’ve started the season well and still got my place with England.”

That`s right Joey, you`ll stay here and be the best together with Robinho, Deco, Lamps, Drogba, Terry. Win the premier league first, then you`ll have the time to think about the final :))
