Carlo Ancelotti has denied that he is set to become Chelsea’s new manager and insisted that he will be AC Milan’s coach next season if the Italian club want him to stay at the San Siro.
Speculation has been rife that Ancelotti will move to Stamford Bridge this summer and he will meet Milan’s directors next Monday to discuss his options.
"My future will be much clearer for everyone after the meeting I will have with the Milan directors at the end of the season," Ancelotti, whose contract at the San Siro runs out next summer, said.
"The game against Fiorentina [Milan’s last game of the season on Sunday] will not influence my choices or those of the club. It has zero impact on my future and only matters to get direct access to next season's Champions League.
"I don't have any meeting planned shortly with Roman Abramovich [the Chelsea owner]. I have been learning English for two years and if the Milan directors ask me to stay, I will."
Milan are three points above Fiorentina in Serie A but know that defeat on Sunday would condemn them to the Champions League qualifying stages.
Marcel Desailly, the former Chelsea and Milan defender, thinks Chelsea are using Ancelotti as a stalking horse. With Guus Hiddink seemingly committed to a full-time return to the Russia national side when his short-term contract expires after the FA Cup Final, Ancelotti has emerged as the favourite to step in.
"I don't think Ancelotti will go to Chelsea," Desailly said. "For a start I think AC Milan will qualify for the Champions League next year and I am not really sure he has the desire to come to Chelsea.
"He does not speak the language for a start, which is an obvious drawback. I think Chelsea are using the focus on him and have someone else in mind who they will bring in quietly at the right moment."
